Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling offers up equal parts danger and delight--and any number of dragons, house-elves, and death-defying challenges. Now 14, her orphan hero has only two more weeks with his Muggle relatives before returning to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Yet one night a vision harrowing enough to make his lightning-bolt-shaped scar burn has Harry on edge and contacting his godfather-in-hiding, Sirius Black. Happily, the prospect of attending the season's premier sporting event, the Quidditch World Cup, is enough to make Harry momentarily forget that Lord Voldemort and his sinister familiars--the Death Eaters--are out for murder.

Readers, we will cast a giant invisibility cloak over any more plot and reveal only that You-Know-Who is very much after Harry and that this year there will be no Quidditch matches between Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Instead, Hogwarts will vie with two other magicians' schools, the stylish Beauxbatons and the icy Durmstrang, in a Triwizard Tournament. Those chosen to compete will undergo three supreme tests. Could Harry be one of the lucky contenders? --Kerry Fried

What people think about this book:
"In anticipation of Harry Potter, Book 4, I had to read the first three books again. What I was struck with, again, is the sheer imaginative nature of J.K. Rowling's books. Simply put, these books are instant classics.

In keeping with Harry Potter tradition, the reader can expect surprises, twists and turns, malicious rivals, uncommonly kind professors, terrible relatives, amazing magic candy, true friendships, and a whiz-bang ending.

It's delightful to see how Rowling can stay true to the feel of the previous books, and yet allow Harry and friends to mature. This book is a little longer than the previous books, but the imagination never lets up, and gradually Harry's world is widening."

What can I say about such an overly hyped book as this? Only that is was well worth the wait! For all of you who have never read any of the Potter books (could there really be people who haven't read at least one?) think of these books as a series of magical mysteries.

With characteristic abandon, Rowling creates familiar busy backdrop for Harry and friends as she pushes him through a series of terrifying encounters, the usual mischief and mayhem, new revelations (and, of course, rousing games of Quidditch)

It's delightful to see how Rowling can stay true to the feel of the previous books, and yet allow Harry and friends to mature (ex: As the kids are officially teenagers now, hormones will kick in for Harry, Ron and Hermione... but they all fall in love with the wrong people! Harry especially has some difficulties in this area.)"

"Harry is growing up and Rowling is getting even better at her craft. This, in my opinion, is the best of the series so far. These are timeless books, books for all ages. Being over 60 years of age, I must admit to enjoying them as much as my preteen grand children. I admit they are probably overly hyped, but in lieu of their popularity and in lieu of the author's skill as a story teller, perhaps this hype in justified in the case of these books. As with the others, I actually feel rather sorry for those who do not get a kick out of these stories. They seem to have lost some of the spark in their lives, as we can see from their reviews. Thay being said, I do recommend these highly for kids of all ages."

"The Author's Skills Have Leaped. I always said the first 3 Potter books were like "brain candy". Light and Easy to read. The story was simple and sweet and it was just all around fun. The 4th book is noticably different. The author's skills have much improved. Discriptions, Content, Overall Plot twists --everything. As Harry Potter become more and more adult within the story, so does the writing style.

This was a great book with an involving story that managed to make every detail matter in the end, as well as many details from the first 3 books. I started the 5th book the very next day. I'll read it again some day. "
